The 2024 Jeep 4xe Hybrid captures Jeep’s innovative designs and their ambition in breaking into the realm of electric vehicles. While this design offers many things some might find groundbreaking, it does not come without its faults.

The problems with the Jeep 4xe Hybrid that some owners have been reporting should not to be taken lightly, such as posing a potential fire hazard, unexpected engine shutdowns, various electrical problems, and many glitches in their software. Due to these issues, the reliability of this vehicle is called into question. 

In September of 2024, Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, issued a recall for approximately 154,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe models due to various reports of at least thirteen fires breaking out while these cars were parked with their engines turned off. These fires were found to have been caused by defects in the high voltage battery packs and related electrical components. High voltage battery defects can pose serious safety concerns and affect the overall performance of the vehicle.

Owners of the Jeep 4xe Hybrid were advised to avoid charging their vehicles and to refrain from parking their car indoors until a solution was found. The cause of these fires turned out to be separator damage within the battery cells. When this damage is combined with the complex mechanisms of the vehicle, a fire is expected. 

Other Problems with the Jeep 4xe Hybrid

Beyond the risk of fire, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe has been known to experience sudden engine failure while in motion. In November of 2023, Jeep was forced to recall approximately 63,000 Wrangler 4xe SUVs due to a defect that caused the engine to unexpectedly stall. This issue is believed to be because of the plug-in hybrid drive system poses a significant safety hazard, especially if this were to occur when traveling at high speeds. Jeep has made attempts to fix this issue, but despite this there are continued reports of engine shutdowns.

Despite Jeep’s attempts to fix these issues, the problems remain.

The consistent need for repairs and the inconvenience of breakdowns have left a sour taste in the mouths of many consumers who were initially drawn to the vehicle for its hybrid capabilities.
